  NOISES 2007/11/26
For those who live in cities with high population densities, one hidden form of stress is noise pollution. We live close to each other and tend to be aware of others more through the excess noise they make than through personally knowing them. This phenomenon is not a consciously imposed form of pollution; we seldom deliberately attempt to irk others by making loud noises. Nevertheless, medical doctors link high level noises with headaches, backaches, gastric ulcers indigestion, high blood pressure, obesity and even cancer!

In safeguarding our own right to live in a peaceful and quiet environment, we must take into consideration how our actions affect others. When you are relaxing by listening to music or watching a video tape, keep in mind that a lower volume level is preferable. If you constantly bombard your ears with sound at high decibels, you will lose part of your hearing. Imagine that unable to hear small sounds like a bird chirping or your baby cooing all because you "treated" yourself to loud music when you were young!
