ABSTRACT The pollution control project of cars and motorcycles in Taichung County in 2006 had carried out since May 4, 2006 to March, 2007. The number of patrolling motorcycles which hadn¡¦t participated the Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Program motorcycles was 41,998. Deducting the repetition, the actual control was 23,054. The re-inspection rate was 66 %. There were six free inspections transacted in remote villages and towns and total amounted to 217. There were ten times of publicity at the intersection a month and it amount to100 sites; forty sites at the elementary schools; twenty times at the traditional markets. The effective publicity was 7,592. The re-inspecting motorcycles after publicity were 4,604. The re-inspection rate was 66%. There were 343 motorcycles reported according to law for not re-inspecting. There were two working seminar transacted for I/M station. Worker training had transacted 2 times. (All transacted on Sunday.) It had audited 876 times irregularly for 175 I/M stations. Every station had finished 2 audit compared with standard gases. There were 175 real-world motorcycles auditing for two and four stroke motorcycles. Automobile inspecting factories had been audited 46 times. It had convened for setting up LPG gas statio.In 30 big communities, many I/M stations provided inspection service and it amount to 679. In 24 big factories, many I/M stations provided inspection service and it amount to 275. According to vehicle age, the concentration of CO and HC emission from motorcycles exceed 3 years increased with the vehicle age, and motorcycles exceed 10 years were the most serious. It was thus clear that old motorcycles belong to high pollution. The allowance of old motor cycles renewable this year should be continued for people. According to displacement, the concentration of CO and HC emission increased with displacement. According to type of stroke, the concentration of four stroke motorcycles was lower than the concentration of two stroke motorcycles. According to the reduced emission coefficient of traffic implement supplied from EPA, the reduced emission rate in NMHC in 2006 was 15.84 tons and in CO was 39.44 tons.
